One Direction “Midnight Memories” Album Review

This brilliant Third Album (Midnight Memories) received a positive reviews from everybody and it deserves it. First of All I like the fact the boys co-written the album which gives a clear indication of the path the direction they’re heading to regarding the musical style, lyrics and sound. for this album being a pop-rock album, fitting their age perfectly and appealing to Everyone with it’s variable sounds, slow songs, pop and rock.

The topics are generally about love, also about missing home while taking over the world. 18 tracks in the deluxe version, makes a Statement from the first track and leaves a deep impression, once you heard it for the first time you’ll put it in the favourite and repeat. The album is FULL OF singles, till now they have released 4 official singles ” Best Song Ever” fun pop track, “Story of My Life” folk pop track with outstanding musical arrangement and Lyrics, “Midnight Memories” pop rock track with superb feel good music and feel good lyrics, the song is full of Fun and sounds Amazing live, The Last (till now) official single is the slow “You and I“, the music video was revealed today and it’s BRILLIANT. Another outstanding potentially single tracks, and my group of favourites are “Little White Lies“, “Does He Know“, “Diana“, “Strong” and “Happily

What stood out for me in this album is the fair vocal distribution among the tracks, in the first 2 albums Harry and Zayn took the lead, followed by Liam, then Niall, and poor Louis will barely have a solo section in the song ( though his voice is my favourite, it’s the loveliest followed by Zayn’s voice, but lacks the strength needed for high notes), having a pop rock direction, Louis and Niall got the chance to show their abilities and shine, they sing loads of solo sections and sound amazing, totally fitting the rock tracks, for this I am very Glad.

(Outstanding live performance of Midnight Memories)

This Album proven plenty of facts:

– One Direction are blessed with the best Music Video Directors of ALL TIME

– One Direction are blessed with outstanding songwriting team and abilities, creating songs that appeals to everybody and leaves a very strong impression from the first time.

– Their next Tour will be something to watch, listen and look forward, I imagine sold out stadiums all around the world, which they surely deserve, and strong strike at every Music Awards.

– They’re developing and maturing in the right pace, walking steadily and approaching the crown of best boy band, and maybe band, of all time, and I’m sure they can do it.

– Their style and image, art work and graphics are something to watch closely and learn from.

– Can not wait for the Fourth Album, and Tour DVD’s!

“Common People” by Pulp, Wasted Masterpiece

have you ever listened to a song and wished that someone else sings it and does it Justice?

this happens to me a lo, but with being extra gutted whenever I listen to the masterpiece that is “common People” by pulp, and what’s  super annoying is no one ever did it justice, including  pulp themselves with their weird way of singing it, totally wasting the marvelous story the song presents. I tried and looked for cover versions and was disappointed by them all (I like covers very much, they revive songs,  give them another dimension, adding experiences and interpretations and color, provoking different emotions and bringing to life distant memories. A totally silly song in it’s original version could become an absolutely amazing full of meanings when someone covers it, giving another interpretation,  adding a whole new feeling and experience into it). To be fair, what provoked me to look into it in the first place is a Girl named Emily Worton who auditioned for the second season of the Voice UK performing an acoustic version of “Common People”, I was fascinated by it because I didn’t know the song before and thought “God, what an amazing lyrics”, I read the lyrics and was impressed that the story is so clear and sensible could be quoted in a movie, Novel, Paint or whatever piece of art you’re trying to make, then made my way through to the original pulp version and my hopes were shattered.

Here’s the amazing Audition.

Now, it’s a story filled with cultural hints, we could visualize it, get the atmosphere of it and imagine ourselves as this girl from Greece. we might have known someone who’s from foreign country and wanted to experience and ordinary common life of one of us, we might have felt this way ourselves when we travel. The Lyrics Drew an amazing detailed picture that takes you in and works your imagination.

Here’s the lyrics:

She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge

She studied sculpture at Saint Martin’s College, that’s where I caught her eye.

She told me that her Dad was loaded

I said in that case I’ll have a rum and coke-cola.

She said fine and in thirty seconds time she said, I want to live like common people

I want to do whatever common people do, I want to sleep with common people

I want to sleep with common people like you.

Well what else could I do – I said I’ll see what I can do.

I took her to a supermarket

I don’t know why but I had to start it somewhere, so it started there.

I said pretend you’ve got no money, she just laughed and said oh you’re so funny.

I said yeah? Well I can’t see anyone else smiling in here.

Are you sure you want to live like common people

You want to see whatever common people see

You want to sleep with common people,

you want to sleep with common people like me.

But she didn’t understand, she just smiled and held my hand.

Rent a flat above a shop, cut your hair and get a job.

Smoke some fags and play some pool, pretend you never went to school.

But still you’ll never get it right

‘cos when you’re laid in bed at night watching roaches climb the wall

If you call your Dad he could stop it all.

You’ll never live like common people

You’ll never do what common people do

You’ll never fail like common people

You’ll never watch your life slide out of view, and dance and drink and screw

Because there’s nothing else to do.

Sing along with the common people, sing along and it might just get you thru’

Laugh along with the common people

Laugh along even though they’re laughing at you and the stupid things that you do.

Because you think that poor is cool.

I want to live with common people, I want to live with common people [etc..]

It’s one of those songs that makes a statement, carving the name of the artist in the national memory.. if pulp never have done but this one, it would be enough. Here’s a 2011 lively nostalgic performance after the band reunited following a an Eight years break up.s The audience went crazy and made it an Extra special Moment

Now, I tried tweeting Emily Worton asking her to post a cover of the whole song, because it was the best interpretation of the song and the only one that did it justice, but she didn’t respond ..

Glen Hansard “Rhythm and Repose” Album Review

Finally, I had  the first roll of the Album 2 nights ago, after waiting for long long time in my library .. it left a deep impression.

First of all it sounded like a demo version, the way Glen sang the tracks and produced the music, having written the album by himself and played majority of  the instruments. Glen  is not blessed with the best voice, but he is sensational.

There wasn’t much of a production, sounded like he was harmonizing his new Material in a small listening party, or as if he is singing them around the camp fire, pitching sometimes, or holding back, or even going outrageous, with plenty of acoustic material, as you would expect.

I was strongly reminded of Glen in Once with Marketa, she features as a backing vocals in two tracks”You Will Become” and “What Are We Gonna Do“. The Lyrics are written from a man’s prospective of hopes and fears, love and life.

My Aunt was vividly present in my mind while listening to the album, don’t know why really, and my sister as well. in some tracks I felt 10 years old watching a lot of Cowboy and western Movies, being one of my favourite genres till now.

My favourite track, the one that stuck with me is “Races” and “High Hope“, it’s sincere and painful as well, presenting a status reminded me of something similar I went through. He delivered the lyrics that comes from personal place perfectly, previous and present experiences, suited him well and sounding exactly as you would expect it to be.

Shane Filan “Youn and Me” Album Review

Shane Filan decided to go Solo after Westlife split and Thankfully, his first studio Album is a success.

The Album “You and Me” was proceeded by an EP (Everything to Me) containing 4 tracks.

I had the pleasure of purchasing the EP,  then the Deluxe digital edition of the Album, 12 You and Me tracks + 4 Ep tracks + bonus acoustic tracks and others from his Nashville trip documentary. total of 21 tracks.

I played them while walking ( instead of jogging and running which I hate) all non stop at one time. The time was flying, didn’t realize it’s almost 70 Minutes! The album is lovely, very lovely, Shane co written the Lyrics and have done a trip to Nashville to do so, the folk country influence was obvious, plenty of acoustic and unplugged material, which leaves you excited about attending a live gig to enjoy them even more.

I was simply guessing my way  through the lyrics and melodies, the topics are pure folk and pop ones, simple pleasures and worries of a common people, it doesn’t occupy your mind or leave you confused, in contrast, I was smirking and smiling all the way through, it’s one of those albums that you’d love to play on your road trip or when you’re camping, or simply, when you’re enjoying a beautiful day out.

Pleasant and decent, happy and optimistic, easy on the ear and the heart, connects to almost everyone out there, we all share similar experiences at some point of our lives, actually, it provided me with a feeling of peace and reconciliation with the mad world we live in, reminding me of the simple little joys .. and worries.

Shane said he was influenced and inspired by The Lumineers, I love those brilliant folks from Denver, and felt the influence clearly in his track “Everytime“, which happens to be My favourite, in other tracks I was reminded of Fun as well in terms of  production and instruments.

The title Track You and Me felt like a tribute to Gillian, Shane’s Wife as the lyrics describes the support you receive from your beloved one upon facing a difficult times, which was the case with Shane’s bankruptcy directly following Westlife split.

About you is a Beautiful sensational song, the second single following Everything to Me, It didn’t enjoy a chart success but that makes it even special and precious. The song speaks about an insecure girl who always doubts her self, the one she loves tries his best to reassure her, telling her she’s beautiful, and it’s all right to feel insecure at times and he would be there always for her, the Music Video is very sensational and added to the actual beauty of the song.

If you are a folk country pop lover, this Album is yours, Shane’s voice is spot on as he never ever off tune, there’s some challenging notes and tracks where I heard an unfamiliar notes from Shane and it surprised me a bit.

It deserves to be one of my 2013 Favourites.
